My Seasonal Manifesto | Autumn 2019
Reconnecting with each season and realigning with the rhythm of nature shapes my year. It helps me live seasonably, creatively and manage changes that happen in my life too. As each season shifts I create simple seasonal manifestos to add a layer of appreciation to the small things happening in my day to day. The manifesto creates a set of intentions for the season ahead. Rather than a list of must dos the manifesto encourages me to have a slow, gentle and sustainable connection to the season and progress with my word for the year. My word this year is Bloom. For the Autumn season Bloom has its own meaning, I see that the leaves changing, the feelings around productivity and change connect so well with the word Bloom and I am looking forward to seeing how the energy of the word can be part of the season.
Autumn for me is such a pivotal time of the year, it brings with it our wedding anniversary and Chloe’s birthday. I tend to reset at this time of year, feel a sense of activity, organisation and productivity arriving with even more clarity and intention than any other season. My camera comes out more often and I love capturing the gentle shifts of the season that I see around me. I feel more at home in this season and my creativity reignites. I love how the visual shifts in the colours within the landscape shape this season and the metaphors that can sit with the changes.
I use the practice of writing each seasonal manifesto to slow down, take time to think about what I would like to invite into my life, and savour the moments of the season. Autumn becomes a time where I really reflect, embrace change and move inwards with my thoughts and plans as well as making our home ready for the season ahead. When writing my manifesto I deliberately leave the it open for interpretation as there is a wonderful power of an open ended statement that can take your unconscious mind in many directions and open up more possibilities allowing flexibility.
